City University of Seattle


CityUniversity of Seattle, also known as CityU, is a private not-for-profit institution of higher learning based in Bellevue, Washington, across Lake Washington from Seattle. CityU currently enrolls 7,639 students worldwide (08/09) and about one third of them are outside the US. The university consists of the School of Management, Albright School of Education, the Division of Arts/Sciences and Management Institute. CityU of Seattle offers campus education around the world and online education.


City University was established in 1973 by Dr Michael A Pastore in order to meet the need for higher education among working adults. Over the years, the school has expanded its locations worldwide and negotiated partnerships with educational institutions to offer certificate and degree programs. To date, City University has graduated over 40,000 students worldwide.


City University of Seattle holds regional institutional accreditation from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU).


Currently, City University of Seattle's School of Management is a candidate for accreditation with the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).


CityU has 27 campuses around the world. City University of Seattle's campuses in Washington are surrounded by a commercial hub of corporate headquarters such as T-Mobile, Microsoft, Starbucks, Expedia, and Eddie Bauer. The university's main campus location is statistically ranked as one of the wealthiest in the state of Washington, and incidentally, revealed in a Bizjournal study is that the city boasts the largest concentration of brainpower in the United States, with 47% of the population holding college degrees, nearly doubling the national average of 24.4%. It is also noted that according to a Central Connecticut State University study, Seattle is surveyed as one of the most literate and wired cities in the country.


Forbes Magazine listed City University of Seattle as one of the "Top Twenty Universities" offering distance learning programs in the United States. Fast Company performed an editorial review of five U.S. universities offering online degree programs, gave CityU a grade of A-. In 2008, OEDb, a for profit organization, ranked CityU's online program as 28th in the nation. CityU is also published on the Bear's Guide to The Best MBAs by Distance Learning.4icu.org Web Popularity Ranking, an independent web metrics search engine, places City University of Seattle in 6th place in the state of Washington.
